Spring sunshine and new growth can often be a time of reflection and reinvigoration after a slow and steady winter. In health we often aim to uncover what would make you feel like a happier, healthier, more well version of yourself and encourage people to set health goals.
Whether it is quitting smoking, moving more, managing chronic disease, or improving your mental wellbeing, it can be hard to make a change and move towards a healthier life. Human beings often thrive when they have something to strive for. Without a goal or a plan, it is easy to stagnate and become stuck in ruts of our own making because we are unsure of what to do next. Goals are the dreams that we are willing to work for and can be the ladders towards successful change.
When we set goals, we take responsibility for our lives and to actively engage in the outcomes. Even if we only take the smallest steps toward achieving our ambitions, it is vital that we actively pursue our goals rather than just daydreaming about them. Having goals, big and small, makes us feel good because it adds a sense of purpose and direction to our lives.
When you endeavour to achieve clear and quantifiable goals, your choices and actions take on new significance. Your plan must be conceivable, tangible, and measurable. If you cannot visualize your goal in great detail or believe that you can realize them, you may find it difficult to commit to your tasks and take the necessary steps to achieve them.
It can help to brainstorm or write them down or make a vision board. Putting your goals into words can keep your intention fresh in your mind and remind you of your purpose. Imagine what it would look like if you were able to make this change? What would it look like next week? Next month or next year?
As you make progress toward realizing your goals, remember it’s about the journey, and aim for progress, not perfection. A step backwards, or a stall also doesn’t eliminate the progress you have already made rather it offers an opportunity to learn more about yourself, and what you need. When you choose your goals using your head and heart, you take the first step in manifesting and maintaining the life that you want and enjoy living.
