Influenza Vaccinations

2021 is shaping up to be a big year in the world of vaccination. Here is some information about vaccinations for influenza.

Influenza Vaccination for Individuals

Influenza is highly infectious and affects the entire body. It can cause fever, malaise, headaches, sore muscles and throat, and a cough. The virus is spread via respiratory droplets through coughing or sneezing, or by touching contaminated surfaces. Vaccination is a way you can reduce the risk of contracting influenza, and is also helpful to reduce the risk of transmission to friends and family.

Each year the government funds influenza vaccinations for people at high risk. People who are not in these high risk groups can privately purchase a vaccine.

Government funded vaccinations are available to people aged 65 years and older, children aged between 6 months and 5 years old, pregnant women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people with a chronic disease that is associated with a high risk from influenza.

Please note that the Influenza Vaccine does not provide protection from COVID-19.

Influenza Vaccination for Businesses – Workplace Vaccination Program

The Workplace Vaccination Program enables employers to make the influenza vaccination available to their employees. It is a simple and effective way of avoiding sickness and reducing absenteeism. It also helps prevent your workplace spreading influenza to people who come into contact with your business. Influenza is highly infectious and affects the entire body. It can cause fever, malaise, headaches, sore muscles and throat and a cough. The virus is spread through respiratory droplets via coughing or sneezing, or by touching contaminated surfaces. Each year influenza poses a significant public health issue with 5-10% of all Australians contracting the flu each year. Each case requires several days off work and productivity continues to be reduced for a further 2-4 weeks as residual symptoms remain. A comprehensive Workplace Vaccination Program is an investment not just in your employees but in your business.

Your business can choose between a Workplace Visit or Vouchers (or a combination).

Workplace Visit
For larger businesses and minimal disruption to the workplace, one of our specialist vaccination nurses are able to come directly to your workplace.
